Land patent, 1845,1865.

Land patent, No. 1261, to Morris from the Indiana Secretary of State's office, based on "an act providing means to construct the portion of the Wabash and Erie Canal within the state of Indiana", dated April 1, 1845. The patent was signed by John H. Thompson, Governor of Indiana, and James Whitcomb, Secretary of State. The patent is a printed form with additional information added in handwriting. It was stamped with the impression of the official seal of the state of Indiana. A note on the back states that No. 427 Canal Land Patent was receieved and recorded in Book 2, p. 492 by Jonathan R. Wilson, Registrar of Wabash County (Ind.). (Ind.) on Jan. 24, 1865.
